These things remind me of these little robots in my husband’s xbox game,  Borderlands. They’re all about you until you look at them.

Soleiana

KW044097-2In the past few months I’ve said “damn, I wish I had my camera” more times than I can count. So I’ve started to carry Oly with me everywhere I go. I’m hoping to capture more of what I see every day while I improve my technique, both manual camera operation as well as post processing.

There’s a group of students that play hack in front of the school almost every day. I was invited to join once, but I kicked the sac on the roof. It took a pyramid of boys to get it back since the school doesn’t carry a good ladder for some reason and since then I’ve been self-banned from playing.

Crystal Lake; Red Feather Lakes, Co

Some light reflecting off the lake or a little bit more sunlight through the clouds would have made this shot amazing…

Sculpture

Sculpture in the park So, I tried something new. Its a little artistic, but it kind of reminds me of the film West Side Story with Natalie Wood. Particularly, that scene when the kids are singing about having a social disease to Officer Krupke.

Or the cover of that Queen album, News of the World.

They Scare Me

This was near my bed

This was near my bed

They scare me. They always have. They used to bite me when I was a kid, when my bedroom was in the basement. Now, as an adult, the quietest room in the house is in the basement, and its where we sleep. And I’ve been waking up with bites again.

So what do I do? I take a picture of it. Zooming in on it made me nauseous. I know we need these little buggers, but UGH! Do they have to bite me? In my BED?!?

For the Love of Tea

The other table's tea

The other table's tea

The more sensitive I become, the more I appreciate higher end teas. Because of this, I am ever expanding my repertoire of places in the Denver/Boulder area that serve them. Today’s little adventure brought me to Seven Cups on south Pearl, boasting that its the only traditional Chinese tea house in Colorado. The owner of Seven Cups is a tea master from China who spends 3 months out of the year in China in search of the best crops of tea. If any are not up to her standards, she won’t have them in her store.

Indeed, I was pleasantly surprised with the qualities of top shelf teas they served. And it just so happened that the manager of the place will be attending SWAC in January, so I made a friend as well.

I learned that there are only 3 varieties of true yellow teas existing in the world today as well as the best way to drink said yellow teas. I had no idea that my champagne taste really was that picky, but I honestly could taste the difference between the Pai Mu Tan from Wynstone’s that was masquerading as a top shelf yellow, and the freshly picked 2009 Jun Shan Yin Zhen, one of the 3 true yellows left in the world. Just as impressive, the leaves never went bitter, even after 7 steeps.

After a few hours of Integrated Pharmacology and Endocrine Pathology, I sat and talked with the manager of the store. Turns out she also works for an acupuncturist who teaches Gong Fu/Taiji/Qi Gong and is already well integrated into the TCM world here in Denver. She gave me her employer’s card and invited me to check out the martial arts studio on one of the open nights so I could see if it could help with my “defenses” a little.

After much yammer I aquired a traditional gaiwan (drinking cup for oolongs and yellows) and 25g of Jun Shan Yin Zhen for drinking in class. As sad as it sounds, there aren’t words for how happy this makes me. I can go to Seven Cups and study for as long as I want to on one cup of tea. The company there is wonderful when I want it and sympathetic when I need to be left alone. I don’t have to ask for special favours when it comes to ingredients because there’s no food and no specialty drinks there. The manager even said I could bring in my own food if I needed as long as it wasn’t fragrant; fragrances affect the teas.

Well, its getting there! I have an “about” page and I’ve gotten a few images resized for the slide show at the top of the website.

And just so I keep my end of the deal, here’s 4 from Savannah I don’t think I’ve shared yet.

If you’re reading this from one of those places I’ve cross posted to and can’t see the images or wish to see them bigger, please bare with me, I’m still working on all this!

So its not looking too good for LJ and the pics. If I post the thumbnails on my site,  the images won’s show up on LJ because WP uses flash.  At least, that’s what I think is going on. I have no freaking clue how to fix  that.

I may just have to put text in that says if you’re on LJ, you need to click on the link and go to the website…
